Travels & Connections
The surviving John Rees-Jowett archive contains more than artworks and architectural drawings. Scattered among it are letters, photographs, documents, addresses, names and other fragments that offer glimpses into the people he knew, the places he visited and the wider world that influenced him.
Travels & Connections follows those clues.
Rather than attempting to create a complete story where the evidence does not exist, this section explores what can genuinely be discovered from the surviving material. A name written in a letter, an unfamiliar address, a reference to a book, an organisation or a journey can sometimes open an entirely new path of research.
Some connections can be identified and supported by evidence. Others remain intriguing possibilities, while some are still complete mysteries.
Where possible, the archive is cross-referenced with historical records and other surviving sources, allowing individual fragments to gradually reconnect with their original context.
In this way, visitors can follow not only John Rees-Jowett's story, but also the process through which that story is being rediscovered.
The research continues. As new connections are identified, this section will continue to grow.
