🎨 THE ART COLLECTION
A Life Recorded in Line, Colour & Architecture
The surviving work of John Rees-Jowett forms a remarkable visual record of the places, buildings and landscapes that captured his attention.
Architecture sits at the heart of the collection. Cathedrals, churches, historic streets, harbours and familiar landmarks are rendered with the precision of someone who understood how buildings were constructed, but also with the eye of an artist interested in atmosphere, character and place.
The collection ranges from original and working material to signed and numbered limited editions, hand-tinted works, monochrome studies, prints, postcards and multiple surviving examples of individual subjects.
Many works exist in different forms or editions, allowing us to compare John's compositions and gradually reconstruct the wider body of work he produced.
Rebuilding the Catalogue
For many years these works existed as individual pictures.
Bringing them together has revealed something much larger.
Each surviving work is now being identified, photographed, catalogued and compared, with titles, locations, signatures, edition numbers and variations recorded wherever possible.
The catalogue remains a work in progress. New subjects and previously unrecorded versions continue to emerge as the collection is explored.
This is not simply a gallery of pictures.
It is the gradual reconstruction of an artist's body of work.
