THE REES-JOWETT ARCHITECTURAL ARCHIVE
Drawings • Records • Working Material • Architectural History
The John Rees-Jowett Collection extends beyond his finished artwork. Preserved alongside his paintings, prints and personal papers is surviving material from his professional life in architecture and architectural technology.
Working drawings, technical records, project material, notes and associated documents provide a different view of Rees-Jowett's work. Rather than showing only the finished building or illustration, they reveal something of the process behind it: how buildings were recorded, considered, drawn and communicated.
MORE THAN FINISHED DRAWINGS
Architectural archives preserve the working evidence that often disappears once a project is complete.
Within the Rees-Jowett material, individual drawings and documents can help reconstruct projects, working methods and periods of his professional career. Some items may ultimately be identifiable with particular buildings, practices or commissions; others remain pieces of a much larger puzzle.
For that reason, this archive is being catalogued progressively rather than presented as a finished historical record.
